JEAN HAYWORTH
The character actress types this letter thanking Todd Axelrod, founder of the Gallery of History, for paying her the compliment of counting her among the important figures in Hollywood
Typed Letter signed: "Jean Owens Hayworth" in black ink, 1p, 8½x11. No place, 1984 July 23. On her personal letterhead. To "Dear Mr. Axelrod". In full:  "Your kind invitation to join the illustrious names in you museum was deeply appreciated./ It would appear that you are misinformed, however, in the matter of my importance in the industry. While I have been in the business off and on most of my life, and steadily in the past forty years, I have never achieved anything near stardom. A character woman is my sole claim to fame, supporting those who were stars. However in the past quarter of the century I have made a passable living doing commercials, pretty much to the exclusion of anything else./ Thank you for thinking I had made it bigger than I have in the business. I am flattered./ I wish you enormous success in your venture./ Sincerely". Lightly toned. Two horizontal mailing folds. Staple holes toward top left edge. Otherwise, fine condition. Original mailing envelope, 9½x4, included. Staple holes toward top left edge. Neatly sliced open along top edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
