Autograph letter signed: "Jean Ingelow", in black ink, 3 pages integral leaf, 4x6. June 10. Kensington, London. In part: "Dear Miss Nelmore, I write with a fine wish of sympathy for I do sympathize wit you for in the son of such a mother but to express my wishes that I would have asked you to come and see us so soon after the event. I was on the continent for a long time & did not hear of this. I know you will have had a sadly sorrowful time. With my love to 'Daisy' believe me to be Always very truly yours". Jean Ingelow (1820-1897) was an English poet and novelist, published from 1850 but very popular in Britain and the US following her collection Poems (1863). Many of her poems, including "Sailing Beyond Seas", were made into the lyrics of popular songs. She also wrote novels for both adults and children, one of the latter - Mopsy the Fairy (1869), proving particularly popular. Multiple folds. Surface creases. Corners slightly worn. Slightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
