I therefore send you the portrait of Sir J. Franklin (copy for yourself & one (when you shall see him) for Mr. Longfellow. I am very truly yours". Jean Ingelow (1820-1897) was an English poet and novelist, published from 1850 but very popular in Britain and the US following her collection Poems (1863). Many of her poems, including "Sailing Beyond Seas", were made into the lyrics of popular songs. She also wrote novels for both adults and children, one of the latter - Mopsy the Fairy (1869), proving particularly popular. Thomas Gold Appleton (1812-1884) was the brother-in-law of American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882). In 1876, a volume of poems by Ingelow, Longfellow and John Greenleaf Whittier was published, with Ingelow's name listed first on the title page. Normal mailing folds. Lightly toned. Corners slightly worn. Left edge creased. Slightly soiled around edges. Faint circular stain in center of page. Otherwise, fine condition.
