Autograph letter signed: "Jean Ingelow", in black ink, 1 page (front and verso), 4½x7¼. In part: "A collection of my friend's + some of my [illegible] portraits - such a curios assemblage. I have a [illegible] many authors worthy [illegible] of your family I have only for my self -; will you give him a card - I [illegible]with my love then I hope for his well being and have one for [illegible]... I have already collected a great many autographs + within my book to be a". Jean Ingelow (1820-1897) was an English poet and novelist, published from 1850 but very popular in Britain and the US following her collection Poems (1863). Many of her poems, including "Sailing Beyond Seas", were made into the lyrics of popular songs. She also wrote novels for both adults and children, one of the latter - Mopsy the Fairy (1869), proving particularly popular. Left edge worn from binding. Adhesive residue on left margin from binding. Normal mailing folds. Corners slightly worn. Slightly toned. Surface creases. Otherwise, fine condition.
