JEAN MARIUS TERCEThe French aviator and fighter pilot signs this commemorative envelope honoring the Bersatu Padu exercise carried out by the Royal Air Force Marham Commemortative Envelope Signed: In French, translated in full: “M Terce/ Demonstration France Spain Central/ America (inverted in French) 1911 1913” 6½x4¼. Stamped May 12, 1970. Color Royal Air Force cachet showing an illustration of a Napier Lion on left-hand side. Postmarked Royal Air Force-Marham, one 5 pence color British stamp affixed. Jean Marius Terce was a French aviator and WWI fighter pilot. From 1909 to 1910, he constructed a single seater monoplane. Regrettably, he never actually took off in his construction. In 1910, he attended the Military and Civilian flying school in Etampes where he learned to fly Voisin, Deperdussin and Nieuport Monoplanes. Terce then proceeded to fly a Deperdussin Monoplane in Spain and various Central American countries at different air shows and exhibitions. Once the First World War broke out, Terce became a member of the Squadron of Captain Jaquet. Toned. Pencil notes and stamps on verso. Stain at lower right-hand corner due to removal of sticker. Otherwise, fine condition.
