JEAN MUIR
Photo inscribed to Warner Bros. executive and collector "Doc"
Salomon, hoping she comes back soon "to the studio you manage so well."
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To 'Doc' -/I hope I come
back/soon to the studio/you manage so well./Jean Muir". B/w, 8x10. Jean
Muir (1911-1996) appeared in films for a decade, from Son of a Sailor
(1933) to The Constant Nymph (1943), but preferred the theatre because
she felt Hollywood wasn't giving her strong enough roles. She was supposed to
star in TV's The Aldrich Family, but was blacklisted during the McCarthy
era. Distraught at the ruin of her acting career, Muir began to drink
heavily, but recovered to make a return to television in guest appearances
through 1962 (Route 66, Naked City).A. M. "Doc"
Salomon, a friend of studio mogul Jack Warner, who rose to head the London
branch of Warner Bros. studios, compiled an extensive collection of
celebrity autographs during his nearly 30 years with the studio. A V-1
rocket demolished his London studio in July 1944 and killed Salomon, but his
photo collection miraculously survived. Heavy mounting residue on verso. Pin
size holes at corners. Edges and corners toned and lightly creased. Multiple
stains around edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
