"To Lionel Aucoin/from/J.P. Sartre/the 15th Oct 1956/Paris" in French, 1p, 5¼x8½. On stationery of "Les Temps
Modernes" ("Modern Times"), Paris. Fine condition. Accompanied by an
ALS: "G. Sorbels" in French, 1p, 5¼x8½, on same
stationery. In full: "Mr. Jean Paul Sartre asks me to send you
the autograph you have requested. Will you believe Dear Sir in my very
distinguished salutations." Fine condition. "Les Temps Modernes" was a
monthly revue that Sartre and writer Simone de Beauvoir had founded in 1945.
In November 1956, Sartre began publishing his three-part series on Stalin,
Le Fantôme de Stalin (The Ghost of
Stalin). Sartre, whose foundation for many of his writings was
existentialism, won the 1954 Nobel Prize in Literature for his philosophical
works but he declined the award. Sartre is rare in any form. Two
