JEAN-PIERRE AUMONT
Youthful image, inscribed in person to collector Saul Goodman
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Saul Goodman/with all my best
wishes/Jean-Pierre/Aumont". B/w, 8x10. Collector's ink stamp on verso dates
signature: October 22, 1943. French actor Jean-Pierre Aumont (1911-2001)
made his first film in 1931, reaching stardom in Jean Cocteau's play
The Infernal Machine (1934). He fled France in 1942, made one
Hollywood film, and then joined the Free French armed forces, fighting in North
Africa, Italy and France, suffering two combat wounds, and winning his country's
highest military honors. He appeared in films on both sides of the Atlantic
for the next fifty years. He portrayed Rimsky-Korsakoff in Song of
Scheherazade (1947). His last two films were Jefferson in Paris
(1995) and The Proprietor (1996). Saul Goodman (1919-2003), a New
York business man by day, pursued his love of film and theatre in the evening,
making friends with many celebrities. While other autograph seekers offered
album leaves, Goodman presented stars with snazzy photographs, a rarity then, to
sign in fountain pen. Scattered creases and surface marks. Otherwise, fine
condition.
