Price: $1,750.00
JEAN SIBELIUS. Postcard Image signed: "Jean Sibelius" in
pencil. B/w, 3½x5½. Portrait by "Lupus". The son of a surgeon, Finnish
composer Jean Sibelius (1865-1957) studied law before devoting his life to
music. He composed the bulk of his work between 1980 and 1930, during which
time he wrote eight symphonies. Sibelius destroyed the last before
publication, but the prior seven reveal a wide range of approach in his search
for a true symphonic form. His noted works include Kullervo Symphony,
Opus 7 (1892), En Saga (1892), the Seventh Symphony (1924) and
Tapiola (1926), and Sibelius was also known for his tone poems,
including En Saga (1892) and Finlandia (1900), on national
subjects. Lightly soiled. Fine condition.
