British actress JEAN SIMMONS (1929-2010),born in Crouch Hill, London, England, earned critical acclaim in such films as Great Expectations (1946), Laurence Olivier's Hamlet (as Ophelia, 1948, Best Actress award at the Venice Film Festival and an Academy Award nomination), Elmer Gantry (1960) and The Happy Ending (1968, Academy Award nomination). In all, Simmons was nominated for 6 Golden Globe awards - winning once for Guys and Dolls (1956), nominated for 2 Academy Awards and she won an Emmy for The Thorn Birds (1983). Dark Shadows fans may remember her as Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, while anime fans may recognize her voice as that of Grandma Sophie in the English-language version of Howl's Moving Castle (2004). One of Hollywood's preeminent composers and musical directors, SAUL CHAPLIN (1912-1997) had worked on stage, screen and television since the days of Tin Pan Alley. In film, he won four Oscars for collaborating on the scores and orchestrations of An American in Paris (1951), Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954) and West Side Story (1961). While working on The Jolson Story, Chaplin and Al Jolson penned the million-selling hit tune "The Anniversary Song". While he continued composing, Chaplin became a movie producer in the early 1960s.
