Prairie
Lobby Card inscribed and signed: "Thank you, Claude, for sharing!/Jeff
Donnell". Color, 14x11. Promoting the 1945 musical Western, Song of
the Prairie, which starred Donnell as Penelope "Penny" Stevens. ©1947,
Columbia Pictures Corp. The film also featured Ken Curtis, June Storey, the
Hooter Hotshots (from the National Barn Dance), Andy Clyde, Guinn "Big Boy"
Williams, Grady Sutton, Thurston Hall, the Town Criers, Duece Sprigging and his
band, the Trailsmen and Carolina Cotton. In the year she made this film,
Donnell appeared five other feature films: Over 21, A Thousand and One
Nights, The Power of the Whistler, Dancing in Manhattan and
Eadie Was a Lady. Screen and television actress Jeff Donnell
(1921-1988), born Jean Marie Donnell, had made her film debut in 1942's My
Sister Eileen. She appeared in a long list of feature films, but is best
known for her television work. Donnell played Alice, the wife of George
Gobel, on The George Gobel Show (1954-1958) and was Ethel, the secretary, on
Matt Helm (1975-1976). She also guest starred on numerous TV shows
from 1953-1979. Donnell's second husband (1954-1956) was actor Aldo Ray.
Creased. Lightly soiled, minor stain at last "s" in Spriggins. ½-inch tear at
lower blank edge. Worn at corners. Stamp on verso (no show through). Overall,
fine condition.
