GRACE SLICK Shown performing at the tumultuous Altamont Free Concert in this signed 4x6 image Photograph signed: "Grace/ Slick" in black felt tip, b/w, 4x6. Shown performing at the Altamont Speedway Free Concert (1969). The Altamont Festival, anticipated to be a "Woodstock West", turned violent and ugly, with the Hell's Angels providing security in exchange for free beer. Jefferson Airplane member Marty Balin was knocked unconscious by a member of the motorcycle gang during the band's performance. The multi-talented Grace Slick (b. 1939), born Grace Barnett Wing, was the lead singer for the rock group Jefferson Airplane (1967-1973) and its successor, Jefferson Starship (1974-1988). She also released four well-received solo albums in between touring and recording with the groups. Although Slick seldom performed after 1990, she published her autobiography, Somebody to Love?: A Rock-and-Roll Memoir, in 1998. Her biggest hits include "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit" (1967), a celebration of drug-taking emblematic of late 1960s counterculture. Pixelated from resizing. Otherwise, fine condition.
