GRACE SLICK Signed copy of How It Was by The Great Society, the lead singer's band before Jefferson Airplane Inscribed Record Album signed: "Marla/ We do love Peter! O'Toole/ Grace Slick" in black felt tip, color, 12¼x12¼. Copy of How It Was by Grace Slick and The Great Society. With one 11¾-inch diameter record. ®Columbia.  How It Was was released by Columbia in 1968. It's the second volume of live music by San Francisco band The Great Society; the first volume was Conspicuous Only In Its Absence. The Great Society was formed by Grace Slick, her then-husband Jerry, and his brother Darby in San Francisco in 1965. They recorded only one single and broke up in 1966 after Grace agreed to join Jefferson Airplane. Nonetheless, The Great Society's influence was felt long after its dissolution. One of the songs on The Great Society's lone single featured the future Jefferson Airplane hit Somebody to Love, written by Darby. Grace Slick (b. 1939), born Grace Barnett Wing, was the lead singer for the rock group Jefferson Airplane (1967-1973) and its successor, Jefferson Starship (1974-1988). She also released four well-received solo albums in between touring and recording with the groups. Although Slick seldom performed after 1990, she published her autobiography, Somebody to Love?: A Rock-and-Roll Memoir, in 1998. Her biggest hits include "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit" (1967), a celebration of drug-taking emblematic of late 1960s counterculture. Sleeve and cover are lightly toned and creased with gently worn corners. Sleeve is lightly soiled. Cover is lightly scuffed with impressions from album, light tears, and separations along top, left, and bottom edges. Tape repairs along left and bottom edges. Small tear along right edge. Record is lightly scratched. Otherwise, fine condition.
