JEFFREY ARCHER. Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Alana,/Jeffrey Archer". B/w, 5x7. Archer has been writing international best sellers since his first novel, Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less (1974). A world-class sprinter at Oxford, Archer became the youngest Member of the House of Commons in 1969. He was deputy chairman of the Conservative Party (1985-1986) and was elevated to the House of Lords (1992) in recognition of his efforts for Kurdish relief. An avid collector, he paid $8.5 million for an Andy Warhol painting of Princess Diana, who had been a personal friend. Archer's personal life has somewhat interfered with his professional life. He was forced to resign his party post amidst allegations that he had hired a prostitute. He was imprisoned (2001) after being found guilty of perjury and obstruction of justice in connection with a libel suit against a tabloid newspaper, but wrote his most recent novel (Sons of Fortune, 2003) in prison. Ink note on verso (no show through) states erroneously that Archer won a Nobel Prize. Fine condition.
