In full: "Day before yesterday I made a speech (enclosed) [but not present] in which I spoke of your authorship of a vital bill that has CCC elements (1933) in it. Best from" Randolph (1902-1998), a West Virginia Democrat, served in the U.S. House of Representatives (1933-1947). Defeated for re-election in 1946, he left elective office for a decade, and then returned to the U.S. Senate (1958-1985). The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was a New Deal program initiated by President Franklin Roosevelt at the beginning of his administration to create jobs with reforestation and other environmental projects. Randolph was a freshman Congressman when the CCC was created, and a retiring Senator when he invoked its memory over forty years later! DIRECTLY FROM THE SALE OF THE ESTATE OF DANIEL PATRICK MOYNIHAN. Moynihan (1927-2003) represented New York in the U.S. Senate as a Democrat for four terms (1977-2001). A prolific author, he served in the administrations of four Presidents: Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon and Ford". Estate inventory numbers in upper margin (ink) and left margin (stamp). Randolph's return address affixed with clear tape in upper right corner. Pencil note (unknown hand) above it. Staple holes in upper left corner. Otherwise, fine condition.
