Handwritten, signed letter from the American poet thanking the
recipient for their interest in her book Thal, and saying that she is
also a resident of Chicago and that her number can be found in the Chicago
directory. Signed with her pen name, extremely rare!
Autograph letter signed: "Jeremy Ingalls", in black ink, 1
page, 8¼x11. November 26, 1945. In part: "Dear Mrs. Madliene As my
address above has indicated, I am myself also a resident of Chicago. My
telephone is listed in the Chicago directory and may be a convenience to you
should you ever wish to reach me again...I am very grateful to you for your
generously expressed interest. Tahl, so far, has had a curious history of
warmly enthusiastic readers". American poet Jeremy Ingalls
(1911-2000), born Mildred Dodge Ingalls, wrote primarily in the
1940's and 1950's. Previously a teacher at Rockford College, Ingalls' first
published work was in 1940 with Symbols for These Times. She
published five more books of poetry in her career, her last coming in 1983. In
addition to her poetry, Ingalls occasionally published non-fiction and essays.
Multiple folds. Light surface creases. Corners worn and. Heavily toned, esp. on
outer margins. Heavy water damage to top margin and bottom left margin,
distorting some writing on left side. Otherwise, fine condition.
