A letter from the trombonist listing his years working the the CBS
Symphony Orchestra
Autograph letter signed: "Jerry Colonna", 1p, 7¼x10½. No
place, 2 July 1984.On personal letterhead to "The American Museum of
Historical Documents Dear Sirs:". In full: "During the years
between 1931-36 I was a staff trombonist with the CBS Symphony Orchestra in New
York City under Conductors Howard Barlov and Eugene Orniandy - et al.. I also
played Dixieland Jazz music with smaller groups on daily broadcasts.. My L
Porecrd album titled: 'JERRY COLONNA PLAYS TROMBONE ALONG THE DIXIE HI-FI-WAY'
Says just that... Truly yours". Colonna (1904-1986) was a talented
trombonist and comedian who sported a large handlebar mustache. He made
several films, beginning with 52nd St (1937), joined Bob Hope on many USO
tours, and was a frequent TV guest star in the 1950s and 1960s. He published a
novel, The Loves of Tullio (1970). Fine condition.
