JERRY LEWIS, WHO IS PICTURED WITH ONE OF "HIS KIDS", GLOWINGLY INSCRIBES A LARGE PHOTOGRAPH TO JOHNNY CARSON'S SECRETARY, WHO IS "OUR KIND OF PEOPLE"
JERRY LEWIS. Large Photograph inscribed and signed: "Shirley:/You're our kind of/people - Kind,/Nice, warm, loving, and/a perfect Lady/love/Jerry/*". B/w, 10½x13½. Lewis, who is pictured with one of "his kids", has drawn an arrow to a handwritten note signed: "Holly". In full: "* I don't know/you Shirley, but/if he loves you,/so do I." Shirley was Johnny Carson's secretary, Shirley Wood. We were unable to identify Holly. Well known as the host of the annual Labor Day telethons for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, which has raised millions of dollars to fight the disease, Lewis was nominated for the Nobel Prize for his many years of service to the charity. Born Joseph Levitch in 1926 to comedian parents, Lewis first achieved fame as part of a comedy duo with singer Dean Martin from 1946-1956. Disliked by many U.S. critics, but revered in Europe (and by many American fans) as a comic genius, Lewis starred in such films as Jumping Jacks (with Martin, 1952), The Geisha Boy (1958), The Nutty Professor (1963), The King of Comedy (1983) and Funny Bones (1995). He has also directed several of his films, and is a popular performer in Las Vegas. Worthy of further research. Minor surface scratches at upper left background. Surface scuffs at background, touching the "t" in Perfect and the "ov" of Love, and lower portion of images. Overall, fine condition. Frame has minor scratches, primarily at edges. Framed, not in the Gallery of History style: 11¾x14¾. Not reviewed by us for conservation integrity. "As is" framing purchase. Previously authenticated by JSA.
