JERRY LEWIS
He signs a 2-page agreement with York Pictures in May 1963, modifying the compensation provisions of a 1962 agreement produce 6 films jointly.
Document signed: ""Jerry Lewis", 2 pages, 8½x11. Signed on page 2. Hollywood, California, 1963 May 4. On behalf of the Jerry Lewis Pictures Corp., he signs an agreement with York Pictures modifying the payment provisions with regard to the second of six films which the two firms had agreed in a prior contract (1962 January 11) to produce jointly. The amendment stipulates, with regard to the second film only, tentatively titled Who's Minding the Store, payment shall be made to Lewis Pictures only after 5% of the gross has been deducted to compensate the film's directory, Frank Tashlin. Born in 1926 to comedian parents, Lewis first achieved fame as part of a comedy duo with singer Dean Martin from 1946-1956. Disliked by many U.S. critics, but revered in Europe (and by many American fans) as a comic genius, Lewis starred in such films as Jumping Jacks (with Martin, 1952), The Geisha Boy (1958), The Nutty Professor (1963), The King of Comedy (1983) and Funny Bones (1995). He has directed several of his films, and is well known as the host of annual Labor Day telethons for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Who's Minding the Store, with Lewis in the starring role, came out as planned, with Frank Tashlin directing, in 1963. Tashlin (1913-1972) was valued in Hollywood for his ability to adapt his directing style to the comic skills of individual actors, be they Jerry Lewis, Bob Hope or Danny Kaye.
