Typed letter signed: "Jerry". 1 page, 7¼x10¼. No place, June 16, 1974. On personal
letterhead to, "Dear Gerry" in full: "My sincere thanks for all your help. It's such a joy to
watch someone do their job with the total commitment with which you do yours. I have
always been a fan of hard working and totally top drawer workers…and you are that.
Patti joins me, along with my boys, in extending our heart -felt thanks and appreciation
for everything you did to make our stay just perfect. I hope someday I can return the
favor. Always," and postscript, "P.S. Please excuse the terrible typing…..but it's a strange
machine. J." Born in 1926 to comedian parents, Lewis first achieved fame as part of a comedy
duo with singer Dean Martin from 1946-1956. Disliked by many U.S. critics, but revered
in Europe (and by many American fans) as a comic genius, Lewis starred in such films as
Jumping Jacks (with Martin, 1952), The Geisha Boy (1958), The Nutty Professor (1963), The
King of Comedy (1983) and Funny Bones (1995). He has directed several of his films, and is
well known as the host of annual Labor Day telethons for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

actress/singer Patti Palmer Lewis from 1944 to 1982 when he divorced his wife of 38
