Magazine signed: "Jess Walters", 64 pages, 5½x8¼. Signed on front cover of Opera Magazine, vol. 7, no. 3 (March 1956). Latvian-American Jess Walters (1910-1996), born Jess Wolk, worked as a gas station attendant and delivery man, among other jobs, before his singing talent was discovered in amateur contests. While studying voice, he sang in restaurants and hotels before debuting with the New York Opera Company in 1941. The baritone spent many years with the Royal Opera Company and the Netherlands Opera. After retiring from the professional stage, he taught voice at the University of Texas for 35 years, continuing to perform locally. Worn at edges. Missing pages. Front cover and inside page loose.
