JESSICA DRAGONETTE
Singer Jessica Dragonette signed and dated this membership application for the National Association of Performing Artists with her New York City address in 1935.
Application signed: "Jessica Dragonette" with her New York City address in purple ink. Pencil notations in bottom right corner. 1 page, 8½x11. Aug. 16, 1935. Membership application for the National Association of Performing Artists. Dragonette (1900-1980) was a singer who's probably best remembered for entertaining the troops and working for charities during World War II. She reportedly raised a record amount of war bonds and earned an honorary commission as Colonel. Dragonette began singing on radio in 1926 and was the first entertainer ever to be given a test for television as well as the first entertainer to have a broadcast beamed overseas, both in 1928. She has two movie credits, as a singer on The Big Broadcast of 1936 (1935) and as the singing voice of Princess Glory in the 1939 animated film Gulliver's Travels. Lightly toned and creased. Typewriting, but not handwriting, is lightly haloed. Light nick at right edge. Folded once vertically and twice horizontally and unfolded. Otherwise, fine condition.
