Autograph letter signed "Jessica" in blue ink. Pencil notations on both pages in unknown hand. 2 pages, 5½x6½, 1 sheet, front and verso. Nov. 27, 1959. In full: "Dear Ethel, Thank you! for your dear note about by Albany ap-pearance. I am so sorry you could not come - I would have been so happy to see you. A quite lovely occasion - warm audience etc - The approaching holidays make me want to wish you all the best wishes and all the joys of the blessed season - I hear [illegible] to [illegible]! [illegible]". Dragonette (1900-1980) was a singer who's probably best remembered for entertaining the troops and working for charities during World War II. She reportedly raised a record amount of war bonds and earned an honorary commission as Colonel. Dragonette began singing on radio in 1926 and was the first entertainer ever to be given a test for television as well as the first entertainer to have a broadcast beamed overseas, both in 1928. She has two movie credits, as a singer on The Big Broadcast of 1936 (1935) and as the singing voice of Princess Glory in the 1939 animated film Gulliver's Travels. Lightly creased. Light tear at bottom edge, which touches signature. Show-through touches body of letter but not signature. Body of letter, but not signature, is lightly smeared but legible. Ink transference, which touches body of letter but not siganture. Folded once and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
