Jessica Tandy sends a typed letter of thanks.
Typed Letter Signed: "Jessica Tandy", 1p, 8½x11. New York,
New York, 1947 November 30. On letterhead of The Plaza to Mr. Henry Cappell,
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In full: "Thank you for your letter. I am
having a photograph sent on you from the Coast. It may take a little time to get
to you but you shall have it soon. I hope that you are better and no longer
confined to a sanatorium (sic). It was nice to hear from you.
Sincerely". In 1947, Tandy starred as Nan Britton in the feature film,
Forever Amber. London-born Jessica Tandy (1909-1994) was among the
Grande dames of stage and screen. She earned Tony Awards for the premier
of A Streetcar Named Desire (1947) and The Gin Game (1978),was awarded an Academy Award for Best Actress for Driving Miss
Daisy (1989) and won her third Tony for her work in 1983's
Foxfire (she would win an Emmy in 1987 for the same role in the
play's televised version). In 1942, she married Canadian stage and screen
actor Hume Cronyn. The couple would remain professional and personal
partners until Tandy's death in 1994. Lightly creased with folds, lower
horizontal fold nicks the upper loops of the "J" in Jessica and the "T" and "d"
of Tandy. Slightly soiled. Fine condition.
