Standard AFTRA Engagement Contract for between Democratic National Telethon II and Backus for his appearance on a program titled "America Goes Public", to be broadcast on NBC on August 31, 1973. Backus is to receive $242.50 as Principal Performer. In 1949, for the first time (and for many years after), Backus (1913-1989) provided the voice of the nearsighted Mr. Magoo in the UPA cartoon Ragtime Bear; the actor later claimed that he based this character on his own businessman father. In one of his best known roles, he played millionaire Thurston Howell III on the TV sitcom Gilligan's Island (1964-1967) and its sequels. He also played James Dean's father in the film Rebel Without a Cause (1955) and co-starred in the TV sitcoms I Married Joan (1952-1955) and Blondie (1968-1969). Not matted in the Gallery of History style. Two pinhead sized specks in blank lower portion of document. Fine condition.
