Rookie of the year in 1957 Jim Brown running with the ball
Book photograph signed: "Jim Brown". B/w, 5x8. A first team All American fullback at Syracuse, Brown (born 1936) was the NFL's Rookie of the Year in 1957. In nine remarkable NFL seasons, Brown averaged 104 yards per game, a record 5.2 yards per rushing carry, and never missed a game! He rushed for over 1,000 yards in seven seasons, at a time when the NFL season was only 12, and then 14 games long. In 1966, Brown retired from football at the top of his game to pursue a movie career. While his acting skills never matched his football prowess, Brown performed credibly in such films as Ice Station Zebra (1968), 100 Rifles (1969) and Original Gangstas (1996). A community activist, Brown has worked to promote black-owned businesses, to equip ex-convicts with job skills, and to mediate disputes among rival youth gangs. In 2002, The Sporting News named Brown the greatest pro football player of the 20th century. Toned. Top left corner creased. Otherwise fine condition.
