Jim Bunning (1931-2017) was the first pitcher to record 100 wins and 1,000 strikeouts in each league. He retired second only to Walter Johnson with 2,885 strikeouts (11 other players have since passed him). He pitched a no-hitter for the Detroit Tigers in 1958 and a perfect game for the Philadelphia Phillies in 1964, the first National League perfect game since 1880.Bunning represented Kentucky as a Republican in the U.S. House (1987-1999) and Senate (1999-2011), making him the only person to vote both to impeach President Clinton and to convict him. A dominant figure in the founding of the players' union, he helped establish the players' pension plan. In 1996, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Tear on right margin.
