8¼x11. With PSA/DNA authentication sticker (#C32383). Baseball's first
modern-day free agent, Jim "Catfish" Hunter (1946-1999), who pitched for the
Kansas City and Oakland A's (1965-1974) and New York Yankees (1975-1979), died
on September 9, 1999 of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as
Lou Gehrig's disease, at the age of 53. He had led the Oakland A's to three
consecutive World Championships (1972-1974) and played on three
pennant-winning Yankee teams (1976-1978), winning the World Series in 1977 and
1978. Hunter was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1987.
