Jim Craig (b.1957) is a retired NHL goaltender who played 3
seasons with the Atlanta Flames, Boston Bruins and Minnesota
North Stars between 1979 and 1984. Drafted 72nd overall in the 4th round of
the 1977 Amateur Draft, Craig became one of the most iconic goaltenders in
the history of the NHL when he backstopped for the 1980 U.S. Olympic Team in the
"Miracle on Ice" match against the Soviet Union. Impressively, Craig
stopped 36 out of 39 shots taken at him during the game, and the U.S.
defeated the Soviets 4-3 in the greatest upset in sports history. The U.S. went
on to defeat Finland for the gold, and at just 22 years old, Craig became an
Olympic Champion. He has been elected to the ECAC First All-Star Team, NCAA
East First All-American Team and the Ice Hockey World Championships B Pool
Tournament All-Star Team. In 1999, Craig was inducted into the International
Hockey Hall of Fame. Fine condition.
