JIM HENSON, CO-SIGNED BY: JERRY JUHL
Rider to a 1970 contract signed by Jim Henson and longtime writer Jerry Juhl.
Juhl joined Henson in 1955 and won two Emmys for his writing on Sesame
Street and The Muppet Show.
Contract rider signed "Jerry Juhl" as Writer and "Jim
Henson" for Jim Henson Associates, Inc.4 pages, 8¼x10¾,
single-sided sheets. Undated rider to a July 1, 1970 agreement between Juhl and
Jim Henson Associates [not included]. Juhl has two writing credits for Jim
Henson Associates around 1970, according to IMDB.com: "unknown episodes" of
Sesame Street in 1969 and Tales from Muppetland: The Muppet Musicians
of Bremen in 1972. HENSON (1936-1990, born in Greenville,
Mississippi) was approached to use his Muppets for the revolutionary
educational show, Sesame Street. The Muppet Show (1976-1981) was
the most popular first-run syndicated series in television history, reaching
hundreds of millions of viewers in more than 100 countries. In addition to
starring on Sesame Street (now in its fifth decade on television) and
The Muppet Show, the Muppets have also appeared in other shows
including Muppets Tonight and Fraggle Rock, and in feature
films. Henson died suddenly in 1990 at the age of 53 of a bacterial
infection. JUHL (1938-2005, born Jerome Ravn Juhl in St. Paul, Minnesota)
was a long-time collaborator with Muppet inventor Jim Henson. He first
joined Henson on Sam and Friends (1955-1961), the first TV series to
feature the Muppets (including Kermit the Frog), as a writer and muppeteer. Juhl
was mainly a writer for Henson's projects, including head writer duties on
The Muppet Show (1976-1981) for most of its run and co-writer of
many Muppet movies including the very first titled, appropriately enough, The
Muppet Movie (1979). Juhl also wrote a number of episodes for Fraggle
Rock (1983-1987). He shared two Emmy wins for his writing on Sesame
Street (1970) and The Muppet Show (1981). The New York Times'
obituary for Juhl quotes Henson's son Brian as saying. "When people say about
the Muppets, 'It's a gentle soul with a naughty sense of humor,' Jerry was just
as responsible for that as my dad." Lightly toned and creased. Two binder
holes at top edge. Staple holes in upper left corner. Otherwise in fine
condition.
