Inscribed photograph signed "To Trinia,/All the best-/John McKay". Black ink stamp on verso. B/w, 7x9 overall, 6½x8½ image, one surface. Jim McKay (1921-2008), born James McManus, hosted ABC-TV's Wide World of Sports from 1961 to 1998. He covered 12 Olympic Games, and many other top sports events, including the Kentucky Derby, the British Open and the Indianapolis 500. His coverage of the 1972 Munich Olympics, site of the tragic massacre of Israeli athletes, received two Emmys: on for his sports commentary, and the other for his news reporting. Altogether, he earned 12 Emmy Awards. McKay, a minesweeper captain during World War II, joined fledgling Baltimore TV station WMAR in 1947. His was the first voice ever heard on Baltimore television. Lightly toned, creased and bowed. Tape residue in top left and bottom right corner (does not touch signature). Paperclip impression at top left corner. Light impressions on image (not visible head-on). Paper loss on verso (no show-through). Otherwise in fine condition.
