The stage actor pens a short letter to John Willis, chief editor of Theatre World
Autograph letter signed: "Jim Oyster," 1 page, 6x4. Colorful illustration of a seasonal teddy bear and gifts printed on verso. New York City, post marked December 22, 1983. To: "John [Willis] dear." In full: "Merry holiday and a great New Year. After a great start--my '85 fizzled--next year!! Blessings." Jim Oyster (1930-1998) was primarily a stage actor who appeared in 9 Broadway plays, including Who's Who in Hell (1974), Hostile Witness (1966) and Romulus (1962). He also made an appearance in the TV movie The Neighborhood (1982). The play Holiday (1995-1996) was Oyster's final stage performance before his death two years later. John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Fine condition.
