JIM PAGLIARONI
Signed baseball card, with inset showing him in catcher's gear
Sports Card signed: "Jim Pagliaroni". Color, 2½x3½. Topps baseball card #159 for 1963.
Batting record through 1962 printed on verso. Jim Pagliaroni (1937-2010) was a major
league catcher from 1960 to 1969, mostly with the Boston Red Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates; he
also played a game with the Red Sox in 1955, when he was 17. Pagliaroni was a
down-on-the-field witness to some of baseball's greatest moments. He backstopped Jim
"Catfish" Hunter during his perfect game against the Minnesota Twins on May 8, 1968
and Bill Monbouquete during his Aug. 1, 1962 no-hitter against the Chicago White Sox
and was the on-deck batter behind Ted Williams at Williams' final game on Sept. 28,
1960. Pagliaroni was a decent hitter and had some power for a catcher, especially for the
pitching-dominated era in which he played, with a lifetime batting average of .252, a slugging
percentage of .407, 90 home runs and 326 RBIs. Minor smudge on "J" in Jim and "P" in
Pagliaroni. Otherwise fine condition.
