JIM TRACY
Signed contract to play the 1990 season of the Senior Professional
Baseball Association
Contract signed: "Jim E. Tracy", 9 pages, 8½x10. Sarasota,
Florida, 1990 November 23. Contract between the Senior Professional Baseball
Association, and player Tracy for the 1990-1991 season. Interestingly, this
contract was signed with the SPBA (October 12, 1990), not with an individual
club. Poor attendance forced the early closure of some franchises in this,
the SPBA's second and final season, and the league folded in December. First
baseman James Edward "Jim" Tracy (b. 1955) had some flashy seasons in the
minor leagues: Player of the Year in the Texas League (1979) and RBI leader
of the Pacific Coast League (1982), but played only 89 games in two Major
League seasons with the Chicago Cubs (1980-1981). He started out well with
Japan's Taiyo Whales in 1984, but quit the team after disputes with the manager.
The SPBA was Tracy's last shot as a player, but he's had more success as a
manager. Since 2001, he has managed three Major League teams: Dodgers, Pirates
and Rockies, usually posting a winning record when management provided him with
enough talent. He was NL Manager of the Year with the Colorado Rockies in
2009. Staple at top left corner. Corners creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
