JIMMY ADAMS and PERCY ALLISS
10x8 photo signed by both: showing them on a golf course wearing sweaters and neckties
Photograph signed: "Yours Aye/Jimmy Adams", "Percy Alliss". B/w 9¾x7¾, affixed to card of
same size. Scottish golfer JIMMY ADAMS (1910-1986) turned pro at age 14, so he was a
seasoned veteran by the time he won his first tournament, the Irish PGA, in 1933. His other
victories included the 1936 Penfold Open and the 1946 British Masters. He played on 4
consecutive Ryder Cup team (1947-1953), and was selected for a fifth, but the match was
cancelled in 1939. In fact, Adams, who was twice runner-up in the British Open, lost what
might have been his best golf seasons to World War II. He began a highly-respected line of
golf clubs and equipment. His last big win was the Australian Open (1952). English golfer
PERCY ALLISS (1897-1975) won his first professional tour, the Welsh Open, in 1920;
his last in the News of the World Match Play (1937). He won the German Open 5 times,
the Italian Open twice. Although he never won the British Open, he was among the top 6
finishers six times. He played on 5 consecutive Ryder Cup teams. He and son Peter Alliss
were the first father and son to compete together for the Ryder Cup. Creased, most not
visible head-on. Surface damage at left edge 1" scrape ¼ from left edge at lower section. Lightly
toned. Soiled on verso. Pencil notation on verso (no show through). Otherwise, fine
condition.
