JIMMY EDWARDS
The British actor known for his handlebar mustache signs this letter in which he explains
that he can't donate anything to the recipient's club
Typed letter signed: “Jimmy Edwards” in black ink. 6x8. August 19, 1952. Typed on
letterhead of The Adelphi Theatre to “Dear Mr. Grant” in full: “Thank you for your letter. I
do, of course, appreciate your desire to further the very worthy aims of your Club by raising
money through dances, but am sorry to say that I cannot, on this occasion, help you. A large
number of people seem to have had the same idea this year and I have already sent many
personal articles and prizes for auction or presentation as part of a 'Gifts from the Stars' item.
With further apologies and wishing the Club continuing success, Yours sincerely”. British
comedian/actor JIMMY EDWARDS (1920-1988), born James Keith O'Neill Edwards, was
sometimes billed as "Professor Jimmy Edwards". Easily recognized by his trademark
handle-bar mustache, which he first sported while flying for the RAF in WWII, Edwards

debut in 1948's Trouble in the Air, Edwards appeared in such films as Three Men in a Boat
(1957), Bottoms Up (1960) and Lionheart (1968). He also guested on TV series and was
honored on This Is Your Life in 1958. Lightly toned and creased. Horizontal fold across
center. Otherwise, fine condition.
