Jimmy Durante sends a typed letter giving his permission to use the contents of a previous letter.
Typed Letter signed: "Jimmy Durante", 1 page, 7x9. No place, 1968 October 26. On personal letterhead to Mr. Buchanan. Matted with an unsigned photo (b/w, 8x10) to an overall size of 18x12. In full: "I am so sorry that I am late in answering your letter but I have just returned home for a few days and feel I had better answer it now. Yes, by all means you may use the contents of the letter if you think it will be of some help. If the publication is published and available, I would appreciate receiving a copy, thanks a million. Best always". JimmyDurante (1893-1980), known to family, friends and fans as "The Schnozzola" because of his Cyrano-sized nose, began his career as a piano player on the Lower East Side of New York City. He and his partners, dancers Eddie Jackson and Lou Clayton, were overnight sensations on vaudeville, and Durante later lent his talents to films, radio and television as well as being a popular performer in nightclubs and on stage. His act included telling jokes, playing the piano and singing in his raspy voice. Two of his most popular songs were "Inka Dinka Doo" and "Won't You Come Home, Bill Bailey?" Durante was also well known for his trademark sign off line, "Goodnight, Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are." He often performed without pay, with the proceeds going to the Children's Fund of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Fine condition. Matted by unknown individual. Not reviewed by us for conservation integrity. "As is" matting purchase.
