Stage, screen, and television actor Jimmy Smits (b. 1955) won an Emmy Award in 1990 for
Outstanding Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Victor Sifuentes on L.A. Law; during
his run on the program (1986-1991), Smits was also nominated for Emmys in 1987, 1988,
1989, 1991, and 1992 and for a Golden Globe in 1991. Smits is especially well-known for
his portrayal of Detective Bobby Simone from 1994 to 1998 on NYPD Blue, for which he
won ALMA Awards in 1998 and 1999 and was nominated for Emmy Awards for
Outstanding Lead Actor in 1996, 1997, 1998, and 1999. He might be familiar to some TV
viewers as a result of his role as Congressman, and then President-elect, Matthew Santos
(2004-2006) on the acclaimed series, The West Wing (Smits received the 2006 ALMA
Award for the role). In 2002, Smits turned down the lead in CSI: Miami, which went to
David Caruso, whom Smits had replaced on NYPD Blue. Smits, who made his television
debut in 1984, appearing Miami Vice (both in the made-for-TV movie and in one episode of
the series), has also appeared in TV films such as The Tommyknockers (1993) and
Lackawanna Blues (2005), and he has made guest appearances and held recurring roles on
many TV shows including Dexter in 2008 and Sons of Anarchy from 2012 to 2014. Smits
has been seen on the big screen in such films as Running Scared (1986, his debut), Star
Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002) and Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of
the Sith (2005). Slightly creased at lower left-hand corner. Faint black mark toward upper
right-hand edge. Minor surface creases (not evident head-on). Name written in an unknown
hand on verso (no show-through). Otherwise, fine condition.
