Color publicity photograph of the actor gazing thoughtfully into the distance
Inscribed Photograph signed: "Jen,/ The Force/ is with/ you!/ Jimmy Smits" in purple felt tip, color, 10x8 overall, image 9½x6 (one surface). Stage, screen, and television actor Jimmy Smits (b. 1955) won an Emmy Award in 1990 for Outstanding Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Victor Sifuentes on L.A. Law; during his run on the program (1986-1991), Smits was also nominated for Emmys in 1987, 1988, 1989, 1991 and 1992 and for a Golden Globe in 1991. Smits is especially well-known for his portrayal of Detective Bobby Simone from 1994 to 1998 on NYPD Blue, for which he won ALMA Awards in 1998 and 1999 and was nominated for Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in 1996, 1997, 1998, and 1999. He might be familiar to some TV viewers as a result of his role as Congressman, and then President-elect, Matthew Santos (2004-2006) on the acclaimed series, The West Wing (Smits received the 2006 ALMA Award for the role). In 2002, Smits turned down the lead in CSI: Miami, which went to David Caruso, whom Smits had replaced on NYPD Blue. Smits, who made his television debut in 1984, appearing Miami Vice (both in the made-for-TV movie and in one episode of the series), has also appeared in TV films such as The Tommyknockers (1993) and Lackawanna Blues (2005), and he has made guest appearances and held recurring roles on many TV shows including Dexter in 2008 and Sons of Anarchy from 2012 to 2014. Smits has been seen on the big screen in such films as Running Scared (1986, his debut), Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002) and Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005).
