Small 3½x5½ sepia-toned full-length photo of Jimmy "Spider" Kelly,
1938 Featherweight Champion of Northern Ireland, Great Britain and the British
Empire. Signed "With Best Wishes".
Photograph signed: "With Best/Wishes/From
Spider/Kelly/Featherweight Champion/of Ireland". B/w with sepia hue, 3½x5½,
printed on cardstock. Photographer's stamp and pencil notes (unknown hand) on
verso (no show through). Irish boxer Kelly, born in 1912, claimed the
Northern Ireland, British and Commonwealth Featherweight belts in 1938. He
later lost the British and Commonwealth belts to Johnny Cusick in 1939. In all,
Kelly had a record of 19 wins, 11 losses and 2 draws between 1931 and 1947, with
4 wins and 5 losses to knockout. His son Billy Kelly, also nicknamed Spider, was
Commonwealth Featherweight (1954-1955) and British Featherweight champ
(1955-1956). Verso is lightly soiled. Fine condition.
