overall, image 7x8¾ (one surface). Publicity photograph. Captioned at lower
margin: "Jimmy Witherspoon/Featured Vocalist with/Jay McShann and His
Orchestra". Blues singer Jimmy "Spoon" Witherspoon (1920-1997) joined Jay
"Hootie" McShann's Big Band in 1944 and debuted one of McShann's biggest
hits, "Ain't Nobody's Business". Witherspoon also had hits with his
1949 recording of "In the Evening When the Sun Goes Down", "Evenin' Blues" (with
T-Bone Walker, 1963), "The Blues is Now" (1968) and "Love is a Five Letter Word"
(1975). Witherspoon also toured with a number of blues greats, including
Count Basie and Buck Clayton's All Stars, as well as with Eric Burdon, for whom
he had sung on the album, Guilty. Minor surface creases (not evident head
on). Black mark at upper right edge. Fine condition.
