(unknown hand): 3-14-61. Jo Ann Campbell (b. 1938) appeared on TV variety shows
as a dancer in the 1950s, but switched to a singing career in the sixties. She
was part of Alan Freed's rock and roll tour, promoted by him as his "blonde
bombshell," and appeared in the often revived film Go, Johnny,
Go (1959) and in Hey, Let's Twist (1962). Although she had only
one major hit, "I'm the Girl from Wolverton Mountain" (1962), Bruce Eder at All
Movie Guide makes a strong case that with better promotion she could have been a
bigger star. Her singing and songwriting talents, along with her ability to
look lustful and innocent at the same time, seemed to merit the stardom she
didn't quite achieve. Some of her songs, including "Mama, Can I Go Out?" and
"You're Driving Me Mad," can be heard on compilation albums. After making a few
duets with country singer/producer Troy Seals, she retired from performing.
Pencil note (unknown hand) on verso. Soiled at bottom left corner on verso.
