JOAN BAEZ
Black and white publicity photograph of Joan Baez smiling at the camera in a
sweater and white shirt to a fan.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "love to/Lee,/Joan Baez". B/w, 5x7
overall, image 4½x5¾ (one surface). Captioned at bottom margin. Often called the
"Queen of the Folksingers", Joan Baez (born in 1961) first appeared at
the Newport Folk Festival in 1959. From 1962-1964, she was one of America's
most popular folk singers, appearing in concert and singing at political
events, including the 1963 March on Washington. That year, Baez began the first

folk music to more socially-oriented works. Baez, who earned fame for both her
singing and her political activism, had hits with "The Night They Drove Old
Dixie Down" and "Diamonds and Rust". Ink note (unknown hand) on verso (no
show through). Fine condition.
