Photograph signed: "love,/Joan Baez". B/w, 3½x5½ overall, image 2½x2½
(one surface). Often called the "Queen of the Folksingers", Joan Baez
(born in 1961) first appeared at the Newport Folk Festival in 1959. From
1962-1964, she was one of America's most popular folk singers, appearing in
concert and singing at political events, including the 1963 March on Washington.
That year, Baez began the first of several tours with Bob Dylan, and her
songs turned from traditional folk music to more socially-oriented works. Baez,
who earned fame for both her singing and her political activism, had hits
with "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" and "Diamonds and Rust". Fine
condition.
