novel, Prime Time.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Alan/Joan Collins" on

(1988). Verso is imprinted: "'Prime Time/The Hollywood Novel/only
Joan Collins Could Write". After publishing Prime Time, Collins, the
sister of author Jackie Collins, also wrote several other novels (Love
& Desire & Hate, Infamous, Star Quality and
Misfortune's Daughters). She has also written two autobiographies,
Past Imperfect (1978) and Second Act (1996) and several lifestyle
books. In 1996, Collins made news when she sued Random House over a $2
million advance on two novels, which the book publisher claimed were
"substandard". After a dramatic performance on the witness stand, the New York
judge ruled in her favor. Best known for her role as Alexis Morell Carrington
Colby Dexter Rowan (1981-1989) on the TV series, Dynasty, British
actress Joan Collins, daughter of a London theatrical booking agent, made her
show business debut in a production of The Doll's House at age nine.
After debuting in British films in 1951 (in an un-credited role in Lady
Godiva Rides Again), she made an auspicious American debut as an Egyptian
temptress in Land of the Pharoahs (1955). This assignment led to a
contract with 20th Century-Fox, where, despite a few good dramatic parts
(Girl on the Red Velvet Swing, 1955) and an adroit comic characterization
in Rally Round the Flag, Boys (1958), she was written off by critics as
decorative but nothing more. Collins' role on Dynasty changed all that.
At the beginning of the 1985-1986 season, she had the star power to demand a
raise before returning to work, but she later only appear in 13 of the final
season's 22 episodes as producers could not afford to pay her every week.
Collins, who has also appeared in made-for-TV movies and miniseries and in guest
appearances from 1957-2005, also had recurring roles on the TV "soaps"
Pacific Palisades (1997) and The Guiding Light (2002). In 1991,
she realized one of her dreams when she debuted on Broadway in Private
Lives. Collins is the mother of British news anchor Tara Newley and artist
Alexander Newley (by second husband, Anthony Newley) and actress Katyana Kass
(by third husband, Ronald S. Kass). Signature side lightly creased at blank
corners, lightly soiled at lower right blank margin. Photograph has minor
smudges, surface striations and postal impressions (barely visible head on).
