"HAVE PRACTICALLY FINISHED 'MONTANA'...THEN NEXT WEEK I BEGIN ON 'OUR BLUSHING BRIDES.' DOUGLAS HAS BEEN AND IS WORKING EQUALLY AS HARD ON 'SIN FLOOD'...."

JOAN CRAWFORD.
Autograph Letter signed: "Joan", 3p, 7¼x10½ . Brentwood Heights, California, no date. On personal letterhead to "Dear Dan [Mahoney, a New York fan with whom she corresponded frequently in the late 1920s and early 1930s]". In full: "Your note came today so glad to hear you are getting along so nicely and, of course, I'll send Dan Sherman a picture. Dan we cannot begin to thank you enough for your sweetness, and thoughtfullness [sic] to us on Christmas. It was so nice of you to remember us and we adored your gifts. Please know that from the bottom of our hearts that we loved them. Sorry we could not have visited you at Christmas but I worked up 'till seven o'clock on Christmas eve & 'till 8:30 on New Years eve. So the one day I had I was so exhausted I didn't even know it was such a day. Have practically finished 'Montana' with the exception of one more day's added scenes. They preview it this coming week. Tuesday, I think. Then next week I begin on 'Our Blushing Brides.' Douglas has been and is working equally as hard on 'Sin Flood' which I think shall be a marvelous picture. I know it shall as far as his performance goes. Do hope you gain all the health you wish for and deserve, Dan. I know that soon you shall be all well and fit again. My best to you and your little friend Dan Sherman, and if I get any time off at all I shall visit you one of these days. As ever". Crawford (1907-1977), originally a professional dancer, made her film debut in 1925. She won a Best Actress Oscar for Mildred Pierce (1945) and was nominated for two more (Possessed, 1947; Sudden Fear, 1952). A tell-all memoir, Mommie Dearest (1978, later made into a feature film), by her daughter Christina, portrayed Crawford as unfeeling and ruthlessly ambitious. However, Crawford was a faithful correspondent with her large fan base. Montana Moon, which included an unusual singing role for Crawford, and Our Blushing Brides appeared in 1930. At that time she was married to Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. Fairbanks appeared in eight films in 1930, including The Way of All Men, a remake of a 1922 movie, Sin Flood. Lightly soiled at lower horizontal fold of pages 2-3. Otherwise, fine condition.
