JOAN CRAWFORD
The actress who won the best Actress Academy Award in 1945 is shown from the neck up in a 5x7 black and white photograph.
Inscribed Photograph signed: "To Maxene/Joan Crawford", B/w 5x7. Joan Crawford (1907-1977), originally a professional dancer, made her film debut in 1925. She won a Best Actress Oscar for Mildred Pierce (1945) and was nominated for two more (Possessed, 1947; Sudden Fear, 1952). A tell-all memoir, Mommie Dearest (1978, later made into a feature film), by her daughter Christina, portrayed Crawford as unfeeling and ruthlessly ambitious. However, Crawford was a faithful correspondent with her large fan base. Montana Moon, which included an unusual singing role for Crawford, and Our Blushing Brides appeared in 1930. At that time she was married to Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. Fairbanks appeared in eight films in 1930, including The Way of All Men, a remake of a 1922 movie, Sin Flood. Pinhole size brown mark at top left. Lightly frayed at left edge. Slightly worn. Pencil mark (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
