Joan Crawford sends a typed letter of thanks for the letter and how to obtain a Pepsi-Cola clock.
Typed letter signed: "Joan", 1p, 6¼x7 on her personal letter head. No place, 1966 May 23. In full: "Dear Bertice, Thank you so much for your lovely letter. I am sorry for this delay in answering, but I have been traveling in Europe on a business trip, and just returned home. Yes, my daughter Christina was married on May 20th to Harvey Medlinsky, and we are all very happy about it. He is a charming young man, and Christina is blissfully happy! I'm sorry but I don't know how you can secure a Pepsi-Cola radio. Perhaps you might write to the Pepsi-Cola Company, 1435 Weston Road, Toronto, Ont., Canda. Or you might call their office. The phone number is RO. 2-7391, I believe. Good luck to you. Bless you, and all good wishes to you. Have a happy summer." Joan Crawford (1904-1977) shot to stardom on the strength of 1928's Our Dancing Daughters, starring as Diana "Di" Medford, a role originally intended for Clara Bow. The film was hugely successful, and MGM soon doubled her salary and began featuring her name on marquees. Unlike so many stars of the period, Crawford successfully made the transformation from the silent movies to the sound era, although she preferred the silent movies. Crawford, originally a professional dancer, had made her film debut in 1925. She won a Best Actress Academy Award for Mildred Pierce (1945) and was nominated for Best Actress Oscars for Possessed (1947) and Sudden Fear (1952). A tell-all memoir, Mommie Dearest (1978, later made into a feature film), by her daughter Christina, portrayed Crawford as unfeeling and ruthlessly ambitious. However, Crawford was a faithful correspondent with her large fan base. Fold crease not near signature. Fine condition.
