Typed Letter Signed: "JAR", 1 page, 6½x8½. No place, 1981 January 7. On stationery imprinted with her name to comedienne and actress Phyllis Diller. Begins: "Dear Phyllis". In full: "Edgar and I want to thank you for your fabulous party. It was the nicest one we attended over the holidays. You are a terrific lady and deserve all the success that has come to you. With love". Joan Rivers (1933-2014) is an actress and comedian who gained notoriety while working as the regular stand-in for Johnny Carson (1983-1986) and honing her act in comedy clubs. She later hosted a talk show, The Joan Rivers Show (1989-1993), for which she won an Emmy Award. Rivers also appeared in television movies, such as How To Murder a Millionaire (1990). Following the suicide of her husband, producer Edgar Rosenberg, Rivers and her daughter starred together in Tears and Laughter: The Joan and Melissa Rivers Story (1994). Her feature film credits include Serial Mom (1994). In 1998, Joan and Melissa began hosting fashion specials on the E! cable network.
