JOAN VAN ARK
The famed actress pens this brief summary of her acting methods: "Don't insult the audience- Do your work- get inside the character- and listen and react"
Autograph Letter signed: "Joan Van Ark" in black ink, 1p, 8½x11. In full: "Obviously Coquelin didn't do alot [sic] of film work - on film-in my humble opinion. you [sic] must be the character inside and out- and that mean feeling everything the character feels- On stage, however, it is elegant and more moving to not 'chew the scenery'- but to guide and direct the audience toward the effect realistically doing exactly what the character would do….but not doing what you want the audience to do- (cry… or…laugh…or dare not to breathe)- Don't insult the audience- Do your work- get inside the character- and listen and react. Enough. With [sic] love -and haste". American actress Joan Van Ark (b.1943) is probably best known for her performances in soap operas, including the role of Valene Ewing in Dallas(1978-1991) and the spin-off Knots Landing(1979-1993).Van Ark got her start on the stage; her performance in a Broadway revival of The School for Wives(1971, 120 performances) earned her a Tony nomination. She made her TV debut in 1972 in the first of many guest-starring performances. Van Ark recently had a recurring role in The Young and The Restless from 2004-2005  and has done occasional cartoon voiceover work, including on the shows Spiderman(1979), It's the Pied Piper, Charlie Brown (2000), and Grim & Evil (2004). Van Ark also shared a Daytime Emmy nomination for the 1985 CBS Tournament of Roses Parade. Lightly toned and creased. Folded once vertically and twice horizontally. Otherwise, fine condition.
